MANDAN, ND – A big night in net for Caleb Cross set up #11 University for the win and John Lang knocked out visiting #4 Minot State University in a 3-2 shootout win for the Marauders.

After two early goals by the Beavers, Cross shut down a potent Beavers attack and made 34 saves in the game, including a tremendous stop on a Minot State breakaway in the closing minutes.

With under three minutes left in regulation, the Beavers had a tremendous opportunity with a 3-on-1 breakaway. Cross stood his ground and turned aside a Minot State shot to send the game to overtime. He then made two saves to force a shootout.

Minot State goaltender Will Dyke also had multiple big saves, including a save on a Lyndon Orr breakaway in overtime to keep the Beavers alive. Dyke finished the game with 35 saves.

Cross started the shootout by stopping the first two shooters for Minot State while Joe Gronholz scored on the Marauders first attempt. Minot State then scored on their third attempt to set up a potential winner for Lang and the Fargo native delivered.

Going to his backhand, Lang’s shot looked like it was initially turned aside by Dyke but the puck deflected up and over the Beavers goaltender and bounced into the net for the game-winner.

The Marauders improve to 3-2-0-0-1-0 (W-L-OTL-T-SOW-SOL) this season. Minot State is 6-0-1-0-0-1.

The Beavers opened the scoring with a pair of goals in the first seven minutes of play. After a power play goal at 5:17 by Joey Moffat, Sean Williams scored an unassisted goal at 7:00 following a defensive miscue.

Less than a minute later, UMary fans showered the ice with 124 teddy bears when Lyndon Orr scored the Marauders first goal of the game at the 7:50 mark, taking advantage of assists from Dain Sardelli and Will Falconer.

Working in conjunction with the Bismarck Cancer Center Foundation, all teddy bears collected will be donated to cancer patients.

Crae Dawson pulled the Marauders even with the lone goal of the second period, scoring just 4:28 into the middle stanza. Nick Bradshaw and Falconer contributed the helpers.

UMary finished 0-for-3 on the power play while Minot State was 1-for-4, including one chance in overtime.

The Marauders next travel to play Waldorf University for a two-game Midwest College Hockey series on October 23-24 in Mason City, IA. Game time is 7 pm on Friday and 2 pm on Saturday.
