Indiana Tech Men Split Weekend Series with Blue Devils

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 8 ranked men’s hockey team partook in a weekend series with WHAC opponent and No. 14 ranked Lawrence Tech University. Both weekend contests went into overtime, with the Warriors winning on their home ice Friday night in 4-3 fashion before falling in overtime on the road 3-2 on Saturday night.

Friday night’s game occurred in Fort Wayne at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse, home of the Warriors. The Blue Devils quickly opened the scoring, finding the net 48 seconds into the first period with a goal by Cole Therrian, assisted by Justin Hubenschmidt. Matej Krasny found the net first for Tech on an assist from Alex Potter and TJ Dougan, knotting the game at 1’s five minutes into the second period. Lawrence Tech scored at the 8-minute mark to take a 2-1 lead into the third period. Krasny found the net again in the third period for Tech off an assist from Cam Chabot to bring the score level again. 14:34 in the third, Tech saw its first lead of the night with a goal from Malik Ali off assists from Avery Smith and Alex Potter. The Warriors’ lead only lasted 18 seconds as Keagan Rundle scored for LTU to bring the score to 3-3, forcing an overtime period. Overtime was only 47 seconds long as Cole Barney tucked one past the Blue Devil keeper off an assist from Alex Potter to give the Warriors a 4-3 victory.

Saturday night, Tech was on the road in Farmington Hills, Michigan, for game two of the weekend series with the Blue Devils. Lawrence Tech opened the scoring in game two with 6:39 left in the second period off an unassisted goal from Patrick McGowan. Cam Chabot found the net to level the game at the 2:52 mark of the second period with Matej Krasny on the assist. Sean Pilet put LTU back on top quickly in the third period scoring at the 19:11 mark, with Kaden Hemme getting the assist credit. The Warriors found the equalizer to force overtime with 11:52 left in the third off a goal from Colton Nikiforuk, assisted by Luke Anderson. Tech fell to the Blue Devils in overtime as John Horn scored an unassisted goal one minute and seven seconds into the overtime period.

Tech is back on the road Friday night, November 4, in Chelsea, Michigan, to take on the Cardinal of Concordia University. The Warriors are 16-0 over the Cardinals winning their last matchup 3-0 on February 19, 2022.
