ACHA Hockey Ops Update for Aug. 19th

Hockey Operations Update for August 19, 2022

Hope everyone had a great summer and is excited to get the new hockey season started.  The goal of these updates will be to keep you in the loop about various information and deadlines that will be coming up during the season.  Starting in September, these updates will be posted on a weekly basis on Thursdays.  If there are any questions, please feel free to email myself, Dave Kurtz, at dkurtz@achahockey.org or the Asst. Director of Hockey Ops, Brandon Russ at bruss@achahockey.org.  Reminder that all forms and links can be found by going to achahockey.org and clicking on the "Resources" tab on the header.

Update #1:  Declaration

The declaration for the 22/23 season is up and active.  This is the first step to the registration process.  Here is the link:  https://achareg.usahockey.com/team/declaration/step-two

PLEASE NOTE:  If you are a new team manager OR your contact information has changed, this is where you would make those changes.

Update #2: Payment

There have been several instances where a person did the declaration and intended to pay the ACHA Dues while declaring, but closed out the browser before completing it.   Afterwards they were unable to reenter the declaration because the team had already been added to the system.  If this happens, just do one of the following options listed below.

Option #1: Pay the dues online at shopacha.com

Option #2: Download an invoice to submit to whatever entity is handling the payment.  Here is the link: https://www.achahockey.org/forms-resources (Look for Generic Invoices for Annual Dues)

Update #3:  Coaching Requirements (link https://www.achahockey.org/coaching-requirements)

As a reminder, there are three requirements for any coach that works with an ACHA team.  They are listed below, along with an update.

#1: USAH Coaching Level:  Due to lack of clinics currently, the ACHA has decided that all coaches will be granted until 12/30/22 to do their module(s).  For those already with a level, this should not be hard to update, for those that do not have any level, we will work to get that part of your status updated for the fall.

#2: Safesport Training:  This training is online through the US Safesport.   At posting, there is still an issue of coaches who have completed the training and not showing as completed in their USAH bio.  Also, please note that Safesport has made their training good for 1 year (365 days).  It is no longer tied to a season, so if you were to get your training today, 8/18/22 it would need to be renewed on 8/18/23.  This creates a possibility that as the season begins, that coaches could actually become "not approved" during the year, depending on when they take their Safesport.   Best way to avoid that:  get it done now.

#3 Background Check:  These must be done every OTHER year.  The system will tell you if you are good for this season or not.  This process can take 5-7 business days and sometimes longer, depending on state you live in or if you have moved in the last two years.  Please do not wait to get this done.

While we have created a workaround for the Coaching Education, coaches are still expected to have their Safesport and background check done and cleared prior to stepping on the ice for their first game.

Update #4: Schedules

As last year, the ACHA is asking for teams to please submit their home schedules to Hockey Ops, using the template at the following link https://www.achahockey.org/forms-resources  (click on Leaguestats to find the template.)

To help with this process we have added a third member to the Hockey Ops staff, Kristen Deramo. She will be handling the collection and import of the schedules.  Please send your completed schedule templates to her at kderamo@achahockey.org

Please note, there is a template for the Men's Divisions and for the Women's Divisions.  This is because the information on the template does not import properly unless it is uniform.  This means that team names must match what is on the website, so we have added the team names to a tab in template for reference.  There are examples of the correct way for data to be inputted on the template, but here are some key reminders.

#1.  The teams must have their division in front of their name (M1, W1, etc)

#2.  The game times are in "24 hour" format

#3.  All time zones need to have Canada/ before the zone you are in (ie. Canada/Eastern)

#4.  If you are in a new rink or the rink you are in has changed its name, please contact Brandon Russ (see above for email)

As always, please reach out if you need help

Sincerely

David Kurtz

ACHA Director of Hockey Operations
