ADRIAN COLLEGE REMAINS ATOP AMERICAN COLLEGIATE HOCKEY ASSOCIATION RANKING #3

Bulldogs Offense Shines With 26 Goals in Weekend Sweep

 

UNION LAKE, Mich. – (October 23, 2024) – Adrian College (4-0-2), the defending Men’s Division I National Champions, received 14 out of 31 first-place votes to hold onto the top spot of 2024-2025 ACHA Men’s Division I Ranking #3.  The Bulldogs swept conference foe Roosevelt University (11-2, 15-2) in the friendly confines of Arrington Ice Arena in Adrian, Mich., as Matteo Turrin and Dylan Gajewski each had a four-goal game to pace the Bulldogs offense.

 

No. 2 University of Jamestown (11-0-0) received 16 first place votes and moved up three spots after posting three home wins in three days at Wilson Arena.  The Jimmies started the weekend by giving Ohio University its first defeat of the season, winning 5-2 on Thursday night.  Carter Johnson broke a 2-2 tie late in the second period on a penalty shot while Brad Fortin added a shorthanded insurance goal early in the third period for the Jimmies.  The Jimmies then swept conference foe University of Illinois (5-1, 10-2) over the weekend.

 

No. 3 Minot State University (4-1-1) split a pair of home games with No. 4 Ohio University (5-2-0) losing 2-1 in overtime on Friday night before getting revenge on Saturday night with a 4-2 victory.  Jay Buchholz staked the Beavers to a 1-0 lead heading into the third period before Nolan Abraham tied the game at 1-1 with only 6:35 remaining in regulation.  Bobcats Defenseman Spencer Schons scored the game winner just 1:36 into the extra period.  Saturday night, Bobcat defenseman Drake Nabozny netted a pair of goals to tie the game at 2-2 at the 8:10 mark of the third period only to have Buchholz score the game winner just 1:17 later for the Beavers.

 

Also tied with Ohio University at No. 4 in the rankings was University of Nevada-Las Vegas (3-1-0), Men’s Division I national runners-up in 2024, which split a pair of home conference games with Arizona State University.  Sun Devils goaltender Nathaniel Glenn stopped 45 shots on Friday night fueling a 6-2 upset victory at City National Arena.  Glenn tried to author a sweep on Saturday night by making 62 saves on 67 shots but Tristan Rand and Preston Brodziak each tallied a pair of goals and one assist to lead the Rebels to a 5-2 triumph.

 

Making its inaugural appearance in the Men’s Division I Rankings was Drury University at No. 23, which moved up from Men’s Division II this season.

 

Dropping out of the Top 25 is Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

 

The Great Lakes 6 Hockey Conference, playing in its inaugural season, leads the way with four (of 6) of its member teams ranked, while Western Collegiate Hockey League has seven (of 11) of its member teams ranked, Midwest College Hockey has four (of 10) of its member teams ranked, and Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League has two (of 6) of its member teams ranked.

 

Over the past 21 seasons, 12 different schools have won the ACHA Men’s Division I National Championship: Lindenwood (4), Minot State (3), Adrian (3), Central Oklahoma (2), Illinois (2), Arizona State, Davenport, Delaware, Oakland, Ohio, Penn State, and Rhode Island.

 

Now in its 34th season of action, there have been a total of 14 schools that have won the ACHA Men’s Division I National Championship:

  • Adrian College (3)
  • Minot State University (3)
  • North Dakota State University (2)
  • University Central Oklahoma (2)
  • University of Illinois (2)

A total of 73 teams will compete in Men’s Division I this season, including former Men’s Division II member Drury University and former Men’s Division III members Northwood University and Saginaw Valley State University.

 

The computer ranking, which will not commence until November 1, will for the eleventh time determine the 24 teams that qualify for the 2025 ACHA Men’s Division I National Championships, which will include the following eight auto bids:

  • (ECHA) Eastern Collegiate Hockey Association
  • (ESCHL) Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League
  • (GLCHL) Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League
  • (MCH) Midwest College Hockey
  • (NECHL) Northeast Collegiate Hockey League
  • (WCHL) Western Collegiate Hockey League
  • (WHAC) Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference

 

The fourth ranking of the regular season will be released on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.

 

The 2025 ACHA Men’s Division I National Championships presented by FloHockey will be hosted March 13-18 for the third time at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Mo.  This will be the second year of the 24-team format.
