BATTLE OF I-55 VS WASHU

From Northwestern Hockey

Can you say, RIVALRY WEEK????  This weekend your undefeated (5-0-1) Northwestern Wildcats will be hosting Washington University – STL here in Evanston.  Both programs harp on elite academics and elite athletics which has made this weekend series in past years develop into quite the rivalry.  It has also been a pivotal weekend for both teams to put themselves into the driver seat to advance to the MACHA playoffs at year end. WashU has won the division the last two years and the Ice Cats are looking to knock them off in order take back the North division. As both teams yearly take the drive on I-55 to face each other, this years we will be introducing the annual Battle of I-55 trophy which will be awarded to the winning team to keep for the year (next year in St. Louis). Bragging rights, playoff implications, hardware on the line, what more could you ask for?  Full details below on the weekend as both teams look to represent their prestigious universities and take the Battle of I-55… See you there and let’s pack the barn with purple!

Both games will be played at the Robert Crown Community Center at 1801 Main St. in Evanston

Friday night 10/20 – 10:15pm

Saturday afternoon 10/21 – 2:10pm

***Chuck-a-Puck after the first intermission, $5 for 1 puck or $10 for 3 pucks, winner gets a cats jersey or gift card

***One student on Saturday will get the chance after the second intermission to win an authentic Northwestern Wildcats hockey jersey if they can score on an empty net from the far blue line.

How to claim the title?

– Win both games

– Win one game and take the second game to a shootout

– If the teams split the weekend, there will be a short intermission followed by a 3v3, 5 minute overtime period.  If the teams still remained tied, there will be a 3 person shootout. If that still doesn’t declare a winner, it will go to a sudden death shootout
