Twenty goals for Jimmies in sweep of Northern Illinois

WEST DUNDEE, Ill.—The seventh-ranked University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 men’s hockey team outscored Northern Illinois University 20-0 in its weekend sweep, including a 13-0 victory Saturday evening. Brad Fortin tied a Jimmie single-game record with four goals in Saturday’s win.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED–FRIDAY

Seven different players scored for UJ, including Jake Huculak, Jordan Baranesky, and Jordon Kromm, who each had a goal and an assist.

Huculak and Kromm scored 21 seconds apart in the second period as Jamestown had a five-minute power play following a contact-to-the-head major assessed to Micah Maldonado.

Five goals in the third period put the game away, as Carter Johnson, Baranesky, Fortin, Zane MacDonald, and Philippe Lessard accounted for the Jimmies’ scoring.

Baranesky’s goal came on the power play while Lessard scored shorthanded.

Brenden Vulcano and Logan Berggren both recorded a pair of assists, while Reid Wilson, Greg Susinski, and Nathan Driver also had helpers.

Brandon Weare stopped all 14 shots he faced.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED—SATURDAY

Wilson, Kole Christensson, and Justin Dumont had goals in a 2:23 span in the first period as Jamestown led 3-0 after one.

Fortin and Nathan Driver pushed the lead to 5-0 with second period goals.

After scoring seven goals in Friday’s win, the Jimmies put home eight goals in the third period Saturday.

Fortin completed his hat trick with goals at 3:54 and 6:19, then added a fourth at 10:44.

Berggren, Lessard, Brayden Michalchuk, Kromm, and Wyatt Johnson joined the goal-scoring barrage.

Dumont, Driver, Michalchuk, and Johnson all had their first goals of the year.

Wilson finished with four assists and Christensson added three. Kromm, Susinski, Huculak, and Griffin Bourassa assisted on two goals each.

Weare posted his third consecutive shutout and fifth of the season, turning away 15 shots. Last season, Weare had five shutouts in 25 games.

 

UP NEXT

Jamestown (5-2) hosts an exhibition game against NCAA Division III Concordia (Minn.) College Friday at John L. Wilson Arena, with puck drop set for 7 p.m.
