While the Fort St. John Huskies have been busy racking up wins to start their season, 3,000 kilometres away in Wisconsin, three former teammates are doing the same on Marian University’s ACHA D2 hockey team.

Goalie Jonny Bateman, defenceman Aiden Tegart, and forward Dean Whitcomb are all living in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, playing for the Marian Sabres.

The Sabres are on a tear to start their season. After tying the University of Wisconsin 5-5 in the season opener, the Sabres have rattled off five straight wins, and have a 5-0-1 record so far.

Joining the former-Huskies trio at Marian are Fort St. John’s Tyler Bueckert, and Sexsmith’s Will McCreight, both of whom played for the NWJHL’s County of Grande Prairie Kings.

Tegart had a special night during the Sabres’ 7-4 win over DePaul University on October 15, scoring his first goal at the college level, and had two goals on the night.

The Sabres will face Concordia Wisconsin for two games next weekend, October 29 and 30.

Tegart, Whitcomb, and Bateman aren’t the only Huskies players to go on and have success with the Marian Sabres D2 team. Former Huskies captain Jarod Lang, graduated from Marian University last year, and is a two-time ACHA Defenceman of the Year.
