Late Third-Period Surge Propels Villanova Past Lehigh, 4-2

From Lehigh University Athletics

Despite a stellar 38-save performance from netminder Demetri Condolios, MD1 Lehigh University dropped a hard-fought 4-2 contest to visiting MD1 Villanova University on Saturday evening at Steel Ice Center. Following a scoreless first period, Lehigh opened the scoring early in the second frame when Max Myagkov found the back of the net off passes from Max Myagkov and Max Myagkov at 2:21.

The Mountain Hawks held that 1-0 advantage late into the third period until Villanova exploded with four unanswered goals—started by Charles Davis at 14:49 and followed quickly by Jonathan Nawrocki at 15:29, before Nawrocki and Evan Noble added back-to-back empty-netters to seal the rally.

Max Myagkov beat Villanova goaltender Louie Slesar with assistance from Max Myagkov with just six seconds remaining (19:54) to bring the final score to 4-2, as Villanova held a 42–23 overall edge in shots while both teams went scoreless on three power-play opportunities.
