EAST ALTON – The Lewis and Clark Community College Trailblazers men’s hockey team will drop the puck on its inaugural season, Friday, Sept. 18, at the East Alton Ice Arena.
The Trailblazers are set to face the McKendree University Bearcats at 7:15 p.m. Admission to all home games is free.
The home opener will include a visit from Blazer the Newfie, LC’s mascot, giveaways, and information about LC athletics and academics.
LCCC coach Tyler Elbrecht said his team is excited to hit the ice.
“We’ll work hard, have fun doing it, and be ready to play anybody,” Elbrecht said.
LC’s new hockey program offers a unique opportunity for area athletes to compete in ACHA hockey without having to go into student loan debt.
“You can come here, play college hockey, get your two-year degree, transfer later and save a lot of money,” said freshman goalie Barron Arbeiter. “The affordability aspect definitely attracted me.”
