LINDSEY ELLIS NAMED HEAD COACH FOR AMERICAN COLLEGIATE HOCKEY ASSOCIATION WOMEN’S NATIONAL UNIVERSITY TEAM COMPETING AT THE 2025 FISU WINTER WORLD UNIVERSITY GAMES IN TORINO, ITALY
TROY, Mich. – (July 9, 2024) – The American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) announced today that Lindsey Ellis (Peoria, Ariz.) has been named the head coach of the United States Women’s National University Team that will compete at the 2025 FISU Winter World University Games in Torino, Italy from January 11-23.
Ellis is entering her ninth year as Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations for Arizona State University. Ellis founded the Arizona State women’s hockey team in 2016 and has brought the Sun Devils to national prominence as a consistent Top 10 team in the nation. Ellis has a 92-67-5 overall record, including back-to-back appearances at the ACHA Women’s Division I National Championships and two Western Women’s Collegiate Hockey League (WWCHL) conference championships. In 2023-2024, Ellis guided the Sun Devils to an undefeated 18-0 record in WWCHL conference play. Ellis has been named WWCHL Coach of the Year for the past three seasons.
Before coaching, Ellis played four years at Miami University (Ohio) where she was named as an alternate captain for her last two seasons. During her playing career, her team won two CCWHA conference championships and won the 2014 ACHA Women’s Division I National Championship.
After graduating from Miami University (Ohio) in 2015 with a degree in Sport Management and Coaching, Ellis earned a master’s degree in Sports Leadership in 2019 from Northeastern University. She is currently completing her doctorate of education in organizational leadership at Northeastern University, with a research focus on team values and performance in sports teams. Ellis is the former WWCHL commissioner and a board member of the Arizona Female Hockey Alliance.
Founded in 1949, the International University Sports Federation (FISU) organizes world-class sports and educational events, all with the mission of providing university students with the opportunities to connect and exchange with students from around the world, in a collaborative and competitive environment.
The Torino 2025 FISU Winter World University Games is the largest international winter multi-sport event for student-athletes and will consist of 13 sports and 96 medal events. Featuring more than 2,500 athletes from more than 50 countries in the 18–25-year-old age range, the 11-day event began in 1960 in France and was hosted on American soil in Lake Placid, N.Y., in both 1972 and 2023. Torino previously hosted the 2007 Winter Universiade, as well as hosting the 1959 and 1970 Summer Universiades, the 2006 Winter Olympics, and the 2006 Winter Paralympics.
The women’s ice hockey tournament will consist of eight teams split into a pair of four team brackets with each team playing three round-robin games. The top two teams in each pool will advance to the semifinals. All women’s ice hockey games, including the semifinals and finals, will be played at the 2,327-seat Torino Pala Tazzoli.
The ACHA is fielding a United States women’s hockey team at the Winter World University Games for the sixth time having previously won two bronze medals, in 2013 in Trentino, Italy and 2017 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
