Lions beat NYU in OT!

From TCNJ Hockey

The Lions defeated New York University in a thrilling overtime game. This was the first matchup between these two schools at the ACHA D1 level. After an evenly played first fifteen minutes, sophomore Elias Sulpizio stripped an NYU defenseman to score on a breakaway for the lead going into the second period.

Early in the second, the Violets would score twice in the first five minutes, but defenseman Eddie Evaldi would tie the game on a breakaway. Evaldi would strike again, this time on the power play giving the Lions the lead going into the third. In a back and forth third period, NYU would tie it up early in the third, but minutes later Richard Stefanik would get another breakaway to regain the lead. The Violets would score twice in a three-minute stretch to take the lead, but Sulpizio would put home a rebound with a couple minutes remaining to push the game into OT.

In OT, Logan May threaded the needle to spring Evaldi on a breakaway, and he would finish off the hat trick and the game with a beautiful shot over the goalie’s glove! Senior Justin Cooper was great in net, stopping 48 shots in the win.

The Lions have two road games next weekend.

Friday, January 27th vs Rutgers, 8:00pm at Pro Skate Ice Arena.

Sunday, January 29th vs Villanova, 1:30pm at Hatfield Ice Arena.
