Jake Onstott delivered a hat trick and four-goal weekend for the Hope College ice hockey team during a two-game weekend sweep of Arizona State University.
The Flying Dutchmen won 5-2 on Friday and 7-0 on Saturday. Both ACHA games were played at Griff’s IceHouse West.
Hope (7-1 overall) pushed its winning streak to seven games.
On Saturday, Onstott (Zeeland, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian HS) scored two of his three goals during the opening 15 minutes of the second period to break a scoreless tie.
The Flying Dutchmen erupted for five second-period goals.
Senior defenseman Nolan Holtrop (Walker, Michigan / Kenowa Hills) chipped in three assists, including the second one of Onstott’s game-winner six minutes into the period.
Freshman goalie Sebastian Wigfield (Blue Hill, Maine / Saint Ignatius College Prep) posted a shutout with 24 saves.
On Friday, Onstott scored on the power play with two minutes remaining in the second period. The goal capped a three-goal period that gave the Flying Dutchmen a 4-2 lead.
Holtrop collected two goals and one assist, tying the score twice with goals.
Junior defenseman Austin Ieuter (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow) recorded two assists.
Hope resumes Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference West Division play on Friday-Saturday, Oct. 25-26, against Michigan State University.
Friday’s game at 7:30 p.m. will be held at Griff’s IceHouse West. Saturday’s 6:30 p.m. finale will be played at MSU’s Munn Ice Arena.
