Ranking System Moves to Computer-based Poll
UNION LAKE, Mich. – (November 2, 2022) – University of Nevada-Las Vegas takes back the top spot after a one-week hiatus in the 2022-2023 American Collegiate Hockey Association Men’s Division 1 Ranking No. 4, as the ranking system switches from a coaches poll to a computer poll. The Rebels swept Arizona State University (2-1, 9-4) at City National Arena to remain undefeated on the season with a record of 5-0-0. Despite the losses, the Sun Devils (6-2-0) moved into the No. 2 ranking position, their highest ranking since reaching the same spot November 9, 2016, in Ranking No. 8 of the 2016-2017 season.
No. 3 Minot State University (8-0-0) dropped out of the top spot despite sweeping arch-rival University of Jamestown in a home-and-home Battle of North Dakota series. The Beavers shutout the Jimmies 2-0 on the road at Wilson Arena on Friday before collecting a 5-2 victory on Saturday back home at Maysa Arena. Despite the losses, the Jimmies (4-4-0) moved into the No. 5 ranking position, its highest ranking in team history.
No. 4 University of Central Oklahoma (9-2-0) hit the road and swept a pair of conference games over University of Colorado. The Bronchos trampled the Buffaloes 10-1 on Friday and 8-1 on Saturday.
Moving into the polls this week is No. 12 University of Oregon, No. 14 University of Rhode Island, No. 21 Oswego State University, No. 22 Grand Canyon University, and No. 24 Indiana University of Pennsylvania. This marks the first ever appearance in the ACHA M1 rankings by Oregon and Oswego State. Also, it is the first appearance in the poll for Indiana University of Pennsylvania since the November 19, 2010 ranking when the Crimson Hawks were slated in the 24 spot.
Dropping out of the Top 25 this week are University of Colorado, Missouri State University, University of Michigan-Dearborn, Drexel University, and Aquinas College.
The Western Collegiate Hockey League leads the way with seven (of 10) of its member teams ranked, including three of the top four spots, while the Central States Collegiate Hockey League has two (of 3) of its member teams ranked, the Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League has four (of 8) of its member teams ranked, the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League has three (of 9) of its member teams ranked, and Midwest College Hockey has two (of 6) of its member teams ranked
With the ACHA switching to a computer-based ranking from a coaches poll, the ACHA will use the two computer rankings generated by USHSHO.com, Ranking A (Wins with Maximum Goal Differential of 7) and Ranking B (Wins with Maximum Goal Differential of 1), and come up with an average of the two rankings. The ACHA will then use the list generated from the average for its weekly ranking. Ties will be broken using the higher ranked team from Ranking B until the Top 25 teams are listed. All games that go to overtime will be scored as ties in the computer ranking.
Over the past 19 seasons, 12 different schools have won the ACHA Men’s Division I National Championship: Lindenwood (4), Central Oklahoma (2), Illinois (2), Minot State (2), Adrian (2), Arizona State, Davenport, Delaware, Oakland, Ohio, Penn State, and Rhode Island.
Now in its 32nd season of action, there have been a total of 14 schools that have won the ACHA Men’s Division I National Championship:

- Ohio University (4)
- Adrian College (2)
- Minot State University (2)
- North Dakota State University (2)
- University Central Oklahoma (2)
- University of Illinois (2)
- Arizona State University
- Davenport University
- Iowa State University

- University of Rhode Island
A total of 70 teams will compete in Men’s Division I this season, including these new members: College of New Jersey, University of Oregon, Purdue University Northwest, and San Diego State University. The defending Men’s Division I National Champions of the American Collegiate Hockey Association, Lindenwood University, has departed to play NCAA Men’s Division I while Iowa State University is on a school suspension for the 2022-23 season.
The computer ranking will for the ninth time determine the 20 teams that qualify for the 2023 ACHA Men’s Division I National Championships presented by FloHockey, which will include the following eight auto bids:

- (ESCHL) Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League
- (GLCHL) Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League
- (MCH) Midwest College Hockey

- (WCHL) Western Collegiate Hockey League
- (WHAC) Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference
The fifth ranking of the regular season will be released on Wednesday, November 9, 2022.
The 2023 ACHA Men’s Division I National Championships presented by FloHockey will be hosted March 16-21 for the first time at the New England Sports Center (NESC) in Marlborough, Mass. This will be the eleventh year of the 20-team format.
