University of Michigan-Dearborn Women’s Hockey highlights homecoming week activities
TROY, Mich. – (September 18, 2023) – This week the campus of University of Michigan-Dearborn is buzzing. This week is homecoming in Dearborn. This Friday, September 22nd, the women’s hockey team will take on Concordia University-Ann Arbor as part of the UM-Dearborn homecoming tailgate and athletic games.
“Playing in our UM-D Homecoming game is a great honor as this is the first time in the five-year history of our team that we’ve been able to play on Homecoming Friday,” said University of Michigan-Dearborn’s Interim Head Coach Carrie Sirola.
The University of Michigan-Dearborn women’s team had their ACHA Division I inaugural season in 2021-2022. Prior to that, they played one season at the ACHA Division II level. The Wolverines have an overall record of 25-14-2-4 since the 2021-22 season. The team finished last season ranked 15th.
University of Michigan-Dearborn won the first two games against Concordia University-Ann Arbor during that 2021-2022 season 5-0 and 4-0. The following season, Dearborn and Concordia split the series. Concordia took the first game 3-2 and Dearborn took the second game 4-1.
“We’re looking ready to compete already. We brought in another large and talented class to add to the returning talent from this past season. The girls are ready to build on improvement we’ve shown already,” said Concordia University-Ann Arbor’s Head Coach Maria Barlow when asked about her team this season. This will be the team’s sixth season in the ACHA.
In addition to being members of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA), both teams are members of the Central Collegiate Women’s Hockey Association (CCWHA). Information about the ACHA can be found at achahockey.org and information on the CCWHA can be found at CCWHA.net.
This week’s game is set for September 22nd at 3:00 pm. The game will be played at the University of Michigan-Dearborn Fieldhouse located at 4901 Evergreen Road, Dearborn, Michigan, 48128.
