Women’s ACHA Hockey Has Tough Start to Season

From Lindenwood University Athletics

Women’s ACHA ice hockey began the 2023-24 season with back-to-back 9-0 losses to Adrian College Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon at the Arrington Ice Arena in Adrian, Michigan.

The Bulldogs jumped on the Lions early in the concluding game of the series with four goals in the opening period, including one on the power play. Adrian added a single tally at even strength in the second to make it 5-0, then tacked on another four in the third. Seven different Bulldogs scored against the Lions and two had a pair of goals.

Adrian outshot Lindenwood 53-18 and Evi Allerding stopped 44 of the 53 shots she faced in a losing effort.

Just like Sunday, the Lions were frustrated on offense in the first game of the series on Saturday, but they played solid defense to open the contest, only giving up a single score in the final minute of the period. Trailing 1-0, Lindenwood continued to keep Adrian at bay through the opening six-minutes of the second, but then the floodgates opened. The Lions gave up seven straight even-strength goals and trailed 8-0 by the end of the period. The Bulldogs added their ninth goal with just under seven minutes remaining in the third.

Adrian outshot Lindenwood 45-19 and Allerding stopped 36 of the 45 shots she faced in goal.

With the two losses, the Lions begin the season 0-2. After a weekend off, they’ll look to bounce back on home ice when they host McKendree University October 14-15 in Women’s Midwest College Hockey (WMCH) action. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. that Saturday night and 1:30 p.m. that Sunday afternoon at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
