Hope Hockey Earns Split with Saginaw Valley State

The Hope College ice hockey team skated to a split of a two-game weekend series against Saginaw Valley State University.

The Flying Dutchmen are now 5-1 on the season after winning, 7-1, on Friday on home ice at Griff’s IceHouse West and losing, 5-3, on Saturday in Saginaw.

On Friday, Hope never trailed after jumping out to a 3-0, first period lead.

Senior forward Kevin Healy’s four-point night led the Flying Dutchmen. Healy (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) recorded two goals and two assists.

Senior left wing Lucas Barber (Lake Orion, Michigan / Lake Orion) added two goals and one assist for Hope.

On Saturday, Saginaw Valley rallied past the Flying Dutchmen by scoring the final three goals of the third period.

Junior right wing Jake Adams (East Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Grand Rapids HS), senior center Gabe Gunneson (Rockford, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern) and sophomore defenseman Nolan Holtrop (Walker, Michigan / Kenowa Hills) all scored for Hope.

The Flying Dutchmen return to the ice on Friday-Saturday, Oct. 28-29, for a two-game series at home against Miami (Ohio) University’s ACHA team. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
