Purdue Northwest takes down Western Michigan in weekend series

The Purdue Northwest ACHA DI Hockey team took down Western Michigan in both games of their weekend series winning Game 1 on Friday night, 5-3, and dominating in Game 2 on Saturday evening, 9-3.

 

The Basics

Records: Purdue Northwest (10-2-1, 5-1-0), Western Michigan (6-10)

Game 1

Inside The Numbers

Freshman Noah Murphy (Faribault, Minn.) led Purdue Northwest with two goals.

Sophomore Sam Bourdages (Hearst, Ontario/), freshman Carter Hobbs (Des Moines, Iowa), and freshman Michael Clough (Andover, Minn.) each netted a goal during the game.

Junior Craig Herman (Bloomington, Minn./Bloomington Kennedy HS), freshman Hayden Mosloski (Andover, Minn.), and Clough each dished out an assist.

Freshman Cooper Olson (Maple Grove, Minn.) played all 60 minutes in goal for the Pride and made 30 saves.

Blake Sierwertsen led Western Michigan with a goal and an assist.

Collin Guelcher played all 60 minutes in frame for Western Michigan and stopped 43 shots.

The Breakdown

The Pride scored the first goal of the game in the first period from Bourdages to take a 1-0 lead after one.

Purdue Northwest scored two straight goals in second period to take a 3-0 lead within the first few minutes.

Western Michigan netted two straigh power play goals in the second period to cut the deficit to 3-2 heading into the third period.

The Broncos tied it up 3-3 off a shorthanded goal by Siewertsen with over ten minutes remaining in the game.

Clough broke the tie and put the Pride up 4-3 with five minutes remaining.

The Pride sealed the win 5-3 after an empty net goal from Murphy.

Game 2

Inside The Numbers

Bourdages netted his first career hat-trick to lead Purdue Northwest and also dished out two assists.

Herman added one goal and handed out two assists during the game.

Clough scored one goal and added an assist.

Sophomore Ryan Gallant (Oshawa, Ontario/) handed three assists for Purdue Northwest.

Masloski also chipped in one goal and one assists.

Olson played all 60 minutes between the pipes for the Pride and recorded 30 saves.

Siewertsen led Western Michigan once again with one goal and one assist.

Daniel Boylan started all 60 minutes in goal for Western Michigan and made 52 saves.

The Breakdown

Both team battled to a scoreless first period.

The Pride erupted for five goals in the second period and took a 5-2 lead into the third period.

Purdue Northwest sealed the deal in the third period scoring four goals and winning handlely 9-3.

The Pride next hit the road to take Adrian in a home and home series starting on Friday, December 1. Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. central time in Adrian, Michigan.
