Third-period goal sends Jimmies to defeat at Minot

MINOT, N.D.– The fourth-ranked Jimmie ACHA Division 1 men’s hockey team and No. 1 Minot State University headed to the third period tied 1-1 Saturday afternoon, but the Beavers goal early in the final frame ended up being the difference as UJ lost 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Beavers scored the game’s first goal as Colby Joseph made it 1-0 at 7:02 of the first period.

Philippe Lessard tied the game for the Jimmies, scoring his sixth of the season at 11:08 in the second period with assists by Kole Christensson and Brayden Michalchuk.

Morgan Venne put Jamestown in front at the 17:55 mark of the second, with his fifth goal coming from Jordan Baranesky and Zane MacDonald.

The lead was short-lived as MSU made it 2-2 with 1:02 left before intermission on a goal by Carter Barley.

MSU went on the power play for just the second time in the game after Keaton Cline was called for slashing at 1:57 of the third.

Sixty-three seconds later, Sheldin Howard gave the home team their second lead of the night with his power play goal.

UJ had three of their four power play opportunities in the third period, but were unable to capitalize.

Jamestown had one power play third at the 7:16 mark, just their second 5-on-4 opportunity in the game.

Brandon Weare had 29 saves for the Jimmies while MSU goalie Jake Anthony made 28 saves.
