W2 Delaware remains perfect

From University of Delaware Hockey

The Delaware women’s hockey team picked two wins over the weekend and remained undefeated in the 2021-22 season.  They have 7 wins against ACHA opponents and have outscored the opposition 34-5.

On Saturday, Delaware defeated Navy by a score of 2-1.  the Blue Hens jumped out to an early lead in the first period when Olivia Hudy set up Julia Nimeh for her third goal of the season.  The score remained 1-0 until the third period when Cory Bucy and Olivia Hudy connected with Jessica Pitaniello to make the score 2-0. Navy would go on to ousthoot the Hens in the third period as they pushed for a comeback. It wasn’t until the final minute of play that they were able to crack the Delaware defense and net their only goal with just 29 seconds left in the game.

Halloween afternoon had Rowan put a scare on Delaware’s undefeated record.  The Profs oustshot the Blue Hens 49-17.  But Morgan Cullen will be occupying the nightmares of the Rowan shooters as she stopped 47 shots en route to a 3-2 UD victory.  Like the Navy game, Delaware jumped out to a 1-0 early first period lead when  Mia Bonfilio put home her first goal of the season on the power play.  The second period was scoreless just like the day before. But the scoreboard deja-vu ended there.  The Profs tied the game just under 5 minutes into the third.  Then in a wild 52 seconds, the teams exchanged goal after goal after goal.  Delaware regained the leaded with an Oliva Hudy power play goal set up by Jessica Pitaniello.  Rowan responded and tied the game at 2-2 just 45 seconds later.  The tie would last just 7 seconds as Cory Bucy and Morgan Thrush assisted on Jessica Pitaniello’s second consecutive game winning goal.
