Women’s D1 Day 3 Recap

TROY, Mich. – (March 19, 2023) – The American Collegiate Hockey Association wraps up day one of the Women’s DI 2023 National Tournament presented by FloHockey.

In the first game of the day, we had Indiana Tech taking on Adrian College. These two teams faced off for the Central Collegiate Women’s Hockey Association (CCWHA) conference championship just last month. The warriors would get on the board first with a goal from Megan Yakiwchuk with assists from Isobel Pettem-Shand, and Lauren Younker. The bulldogs would score to take a tie into the first intermission. Bulldogs goal was scored by Taylor Robinson assisted by Erika McDonald and Macy Piche. The second period would give us one more goal from each team. In the third period, each team would score an additional goal. Then late in the third, the bulldogs would score two unanswered goals. Tess McKerrow would get the game winning goal with the assists from Hailey Wiltshire and Allison Shaw. Final: Indiana Tech 3, Adrian College 5

Maryville University took on Minot State University in the second game of the day. This was also a Women’s Midwest Hockey League (WMCH) conference matchup. The beavers would open the scoring with a goal from Jordan Kulbida. They would score again in the first period to go into the first intermission up 2-0. In the third period, the beavers and the saints would both score. The Saints goal was scored by Shelby Ferbet with the assists from Olivia O’Brien, and Emma Gerwitz. Final: Minot State University 3, Maryville University 1

Midland University and McKendree University competed in the third game of the day. Both teams are WMCH league members. The warriors would open the scoring with a goal from Kayla Flanigan. The bearcats would answer with a goal of their own scored by Jayna Barnden. The warriors would score again before closing out the period with a 2-1 lead. The Warriors would score again in the second and the third period.  Final: Midland University 4, McKendree University 1

The final game of the day was between Liberty University and Miami University. The game would remain scoreless after 20 minutes of play. The flames scored a goal in the second period. The goal was scored by Brielle Fussy with the assist from Shelby Bradford. Things would get interesting in the third period when a goal from Laura Labarre with an assist from Emma Heinig would tie the game at 1-1 with just under 7 minutes remaining in the game. The flames would go on to score two more games before regulation came to an end. The Redhawks goalie, Maya Gonzalez, stopped 62 of 65 shots. Final: Liberty University 3, Miami University 1
